Fresh summer fruits are favorites in the blender. The recipes are so versatile, you can create your own with your favorite fruits and spirits. There are a few basic things to keep in mind, but the sky is practically the limit.
When blending, the liquids should just reach the top of the ice in the blender. Ice cream can be used, but use a tad less liquid, or you will have a soupy cocktail. If this happens, try adding some ice, a touch more spirits & blend it again.
If you prefer your cocktails tart, don't add liqueurs. If you like them sweet, consider adding a bit of liqueur or blending them with ice cream.
Here are some suggestions for pairing your fruits with spirits. This is not meant to be an all exclusive, just some tips and ideas. If you come up with anything marvelous, please share it on the forum with us!
Melons go well with Tequila or Mezcal, Vodka, any type of Rum, Midori, Puckers & Chambord. Stay away from Coffee flavored liqueurs, Creme de Cacao, Irish Cream & Creme de Menthes.
Fresh watermelon & Del Maguey Mezcal pair up for a tantalizing concoction.
Oranges are best squeezed fresh & the classic is a Screwdriver, however there are many variations. A Madras is Vodka, Orange & Cranberry Juice. A Harvey Wallbanger is just a tall Screwdriver with a splash of Galliano.
This is just a normal Sour recipe, but it has the added kick of a splash of Orange Juice.
Berries and cream spell a mystic delight. Rum, Vodka, Tequila, Framboise, Chambord, Creme de Cassis, Frangelico, Amaretto and many others come to mind when mixing with any kind of berry.
Frozen Nuts & Berries
2 Scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream
1 oz. Chambord
1 oz. Frangelico
Handful of fresh Berries
Blend well & garnish with whipped cream with Chambord drizzled over the top & a fresh berry or two.
I especially like these with a nice Bourbon. Fresh cherries, pitted with an ounce or two of Bourbon, a small scoop of ice, served in a sugar frosted flute or tulip is decadence to me. For those that like it a bit sweeter, omit the ice and add ice cream. Rum is also recommended with cherries.
Fresh Fruit Daiquiri
You can almost always find this staple fruit. Summertime is a great time to pair it with fresh fruits. Strawberries are a natural, as is just about any fruit you can think of. Rum is always a good choice for bananas.
Peaches and cream go well with nut flavored liqueurs like Frangelico and Amaretto. Brandy, Vodka and Rum work well without the cream.
